STOCKTON, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf climbed two spots into the top-10 following Friday's second round of the Visit Stockton Invitational.
Despite a delayed start due to rainy conditions, the Anteaters had three players finish with a sub-70 round. They combined for a season-best 7-under 277 at the par-71, 6,566-yard course at the Stockton Golf & Country Club. The 'Eaters are currently ninth with a 36-hole score of 567 (-1).
Washington State increased its lead on the field, pulling ahead by four strokes with a total of 542 (268-274).
Sophomore
Darien Zhao continued to pace UCI as he matched his season best with a 2-under 69. Zhao, who had four birdies on the day, is now tied for 35th at 1-under 141.

Kolbe Irei and senior
Nathan Irwin also carded a 69 (-2), which was a collegiate personal best for both individuals. Irei tied Zhao for the team lead with four birdies on the day, while Irwin nearly had a clean scorecard with three birdies and only one bogey. The two jumped 11 spots in the standings into a tie for 41st at even-par 142.
Redshirt freshman
Johnny Bai is also tied for 41st as he saw a two-stroke improvement in the second round, registering a season-best 1-under 70.
Sophomore
Henry Fitzhugh rounded out the Anteater lineup in a tie for 74th at 7-over 149 (76-73).
UC Irvine wraps up action at the Visit Stockton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 23, with tee times starting at 7:45 a.m.
