IRVINE, Calif. --- Major League Soccer held their MLS SuperDraft virtually Thursday with Anteater senior Alvaro Quezada among the selections going in the third round to LAFC.

Quezada, a native of Lancaster, Calif., heard the call from local club, Los Angeles Football Club, as the 68th overall selection in the draft. The forward earned his degree in the fall as a psychology and social behavior major.

Alvaro Quezada, when asked his thoughts and feelings on the news proudly said, "It's been a tough journey so far, but I wouldn't be where I'm at without the help of my family, my coaches, and my teammates who pushed me everyday to be the best I can be. All Glorty goes to God!"

The dynamic forward has been a mainstay on the pitch since joining in 2017 playing in every match as a freshman and sophomore, and finishing with 56 career matches played of UCI's 59 matches before his senior season was cut short this fall. Quezada finished his UCI career with 25 points in 40 starts coming from eight goals, nine assists, and three game-winners. He earned All-Big West Honorable Mention as a sophomore when scored five times and led the team with six assists en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance and first round win. He also took home his lone Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor that season. His lone in his junior season even came as part of a 1-1 draw at UCLA.

Quezada is the first Anteater to hear his name called since Cam Iwasa was selected in 2015. He becomes the 14th Anteater selected and eighth in the SuperDraft in addition to six others in the MLS Supplemental Draft. The forward is the first Anteater selected by the club, and joins Lawrence Smalls, the first Anteater selected in an MLS SuperDraft, as the only two selected by any Los Angeles club. He becomes just the fourth Anteater to be selected in the third round or earlier joining Marco Franco (1st - 2014), Brad Evans (2nd - 2007), and David Sias (3rd - 2009).
