IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West Conference honored women's water polo player Tara Prentice and men's volleyball player Scott Stadick as UCI's Big West Conference Female and Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year. UCI along with the conference office would like to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of these two elite athletes.
Prentice is a two-time ACWPC All-American as well as a first team All-Big West Conference honoree in both 2018 and 2019. Her 70 goals in 2019 ranks second in the UCI season record book. The utility player was named Big West Conference Player of the Week for the third time in her career earlier this season after scoring a career-high five goals against Cal, a feat she would repeat later in the year against San Diego State. She helped UCI to their highest ranking in program history as the Anteaters reached No. 3 nationally earlier this year. The senior led the Anteaters with 57 goals, nine assists and 16 steals in 2020. A Criminal, Law & Society and Physiological Sciences major, the senior is a member of the National Society of Leadership & Success. She has conducted research on Child Trafficking and has served as an intern with the Criminal Defense Law Firm. After graduation, she plans to pursue a professional career overseas and to one day attend law school.
"Tara is one of the hardest workers and most intelligent women I have had the privilege to work with," women's water polo head coach Dan Klatt said. "She is focused and fully invested in her academic and athletic endeavors. Tara is a prideful Anteater who champions UC Irvine at all times. I look forward to a time where I can celebrate this accomplishment with her and thank her face to face for her commitment to UC Irvine and the women's water polo program."
Stadick, a middle blocker for the Anteaters, led the nation in blocking with a 2.03 average. The senior owns the UCI single season solo block mark with 30 in 2018 and holds three more of the top six spots in the season records. He ranks second all-time in solo blocks with 94 and third in block assists with 449. He earned Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors five times this season alone, and 11 times in his career. This season, the middle blocker totaled 11 block assists against Hawaii which were the second most in the country this season and tied for ninth best in a match at UCI. He was a two-time AVCA All-American and has earned All-Big West and All-MPSF accolades, including MPSF and Volleyballmag.com Freshman of the Year in 2017. A Business Administration major with an emphasis on Accounting and Finance has earned Dean's List honors ten times. The former U.S. Junior National Team player hopes to play volleyball professionally and to ultimately work for a start-up or a non-profit.
"Scott is an ambassador, a true exemplar for our team, our department and our institution," men's volleyball head coach David Kniffin commented.
