
‘Eaters Defeat Tritons, 11-8

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Piper Smith and Tara Prentice each had hat tricks as No. 6 UC Irvine defeated future Big West Conference member, No. 14 UC San Diego, 11-8, Friday at Canyonview Aquatics Center.
UCI wins its fourth-straight game, improving to 16-8 on the season. The Tritons fall to 16-13 overall.
The 'Eaters used a strong first half, out-scoring UCSD 7-4 to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Prentice and Smith led the team with three goals apiece
> Mary Brooks finished with two goals while Sarah Nichols, Danielle Ayala and Ariana Bockstahler had one each
> Morgan Jones played all 32 minutes in goal, making 11 stops
> Brooks won all four sprints and grabbed three steals
> UCI held a slight 33-32 advantage in shots and went 2-5 on power-plays
