No. 8 UC Irvine will entertain No. 10 Princeton Sunday (Dec. 29) at 5:00 p.m. in the Bren Events Center.
It is the last NCAA men's volleyball match of the decade and the first of the 2020 season. The Anteaters won two national titles over the last 10 years (2012, 2013).
Princeton enters the year at No. 10 nationally, their highest ranking in program history.
The Tigers were picked to finish first in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) preseason coaches' poll.
Last season the Tigers finished with an 18-13 record, winning the EIVA title with a 13-1 record.
Princeton advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament and welcome back 13 players from last season's roster along with four newcomers in 2020.
The two teams met last year at the Uvaldo Acosta Invitational hosted by George Mason where UCI hit a blistering .500 to sweep the Tigers, 3-0 on the neutral court. Joel Schneidmiller paced UCI with 12 kills, hitting .647 (12-1-17). He also fired a career-high five aces. The Tigers hit .182 (10-6-30) and were led by George Huhmann with 10 kills and five digs.
No. 8 UCI went 18-11 overall last season.
The Anteaters were selected fourth in the Big West Preseason Coaches Poll.
