The 15th ranked UC Irvine Anteaters conclude the regular season with two home matches. Local rival Concordia Irvine visits Anteater Aquatics Complex Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 the 'Eaters host Long Beach State at 1 p.m.
SENIOR DAY
A senior ceremony will take place before Saturday's game against Long Beach State (1 p.m.). UCI will honor its six seniors, Chandler Mankins, Jon Polos, Sven Davidson, Ian Fleenor, Foster Hoose and Byrant Jourdie prior to the start of the game.
WEEKEND STORYLINES
- UCI slipped to No. 15 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) national poll after ranking as high as No. 9. The 'Eaters started the season ranked at No. 13
- The 'Eaters dropped to 6-13 on the season and 0-4 in the conference after falling to No. 3 Pacific and No. 7 Cal on the road last weekend. UCI has an opportunity to win its first GCC game when LBSU visits on Saturday
- The Anteaters currently sit in last place in the conference standings while Pacific is first
- The schedule has not been easy as UCI will faces its fifth-straight team ranked within the top-10 nationally
- UCI and No. 8 LBSU will square off for the second time this season. The two teams met the first week of the season at the Triton Invitational as the 'Eaters dropped an overtime decision, 10-8, to the Beach
- In that meeting, Harrison Land notched 10 saves in goal while Casey Lynton tallied three goals
- Austin Stewart leads LBSU with 55 goals on the season and 36 steals. Matt Morris is second with 40 goals while Marwan Darwish has 184 saves in 23 games played
- This will also mark the second meeting between UCI and CUI this year. The Anteaters defeated the Eagles 12-10 on Sept. 20 at Woollett Pool
- Jason Evezard had a game-high six goals in that meeting while Harrison Land finished with 10 saves
- CUI lost two-straight games against Pepperdine and Cal Baptist
- Head coach Marc Hunt earned his 200th career win against Cal Baptist (Sept. 14)
- Junior Jason Evezard set a new single-game school record against CBU scoring nine goals
- UCI went 0-2 on a trip up north with losses to No. Pacific, 19-9, and No. 7 Cal, 10-7
- Casey Lynton finished the weekend with five goals including a hat trick against Pacific and two goals against Cal
- Harrison Land was back in goal for the 'Eaters and had nine saves against Pacific and eight against Cal
- UCI was tied with Cal in the third quarter but the Bears were able to pull away for the win in the fourth frame
- Jason Evezard leads the Anteaters with 48 points (39 goals and nine assists)
- Casey Lynton is second on the team with 22 goals
- Bryant Joudrie has 18 goals on the season and leads the team in assists (22) and steals (18)
- Jon Polos has drawn a team-high 27 exclusions and has 16 goals
- Zlatan Nikocevic and Ivan Mercep are also in double-figures with 15 and 13 goals apiece, respectively
- Harrison Land has totaled 123 saves for a .468 save percentage while Collin Winters has 34 saves in seven games played. Chandler Mankins has played five goals in the cage tallying 20 saves
- UCI is averaging 8.94 goals per game while allowing opponents 11.71 goals per game
- The 'Eaters are shooting .280 on the season and average 8.95 saves per game
- UC Irvine returns three of its four leading scorers from a year ago including top-scorer and GCC Newcomer of the Year Jason Evezard (64 goals). GCC Honorable Mention selection Casey Lynton returns as the team's leader in assists (28) and steals (43). He also produced 34 goals last season. Seniors Jon Polos and Bryant Jourdie each contributed 24 and 22 goals, respectively
- Other top returners include All-GCC Freshman Team honoree Zlatan Nikocevic (17 goals, 12 assists), seniors Ian Fleenor (12 goals, 13 assists), Foster Hoose (11 steals, four goals) and Sven Davidson (7 steals, three goals)
- Overall, UCI returns 16 players and welcomes 9 newcomers. The 'Eaters lost 10 letter winners from a year ago
- Head Coach Marc Hunt enters his 15th season at the helm behind a 201-185 career record.
- Fans will get seven chances to see the Anteaters play at home including their home opener against last year's NCAA runner-up Stanford on Oct. 13
