
No. 7 UC Irvine Outlasted By No. 8 Pacific, 12-9

STOCKTON, Calif. – On the second day of its Northern California trip, the seventh-ranked UC Irvine women's water polo team dropped a 12-9 decision to eighth-ranked Pacific, Sunday afternoon at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
UCI falls to 9-13 on the season while UOP improves to 12-7.
Senior Keana Eldridge finished the day with a hat trick, scoring a team-best three goals while Cara Borkovec added two. Isabel Rack dished out two assists and Julie Swieca grabbed a steal. Jenna Phreaner made 11 stops in goal, playing all four quarters in the cage for the 'Eaters.
Pacific's Kyra Christmas and Karolina Hlavata notched three goals apiece while goalkeeper Alexis Hollinrake made seven saves.
The Tigers out-shot the Anteaters 37-27 and held advantages in steals, 10-1, and sprints, 4-0.
UCI jumped out to a 2-0 lead after goals from Borkovec and Eldridge. However, UOP answered, scoring five straight, including a made five-meter-penalty shot, to take a 5-2 lead. Borkovec tallied a power-play goal in the final minute of the quarter to make it, 5-3.
The teams exchanged two goals each to open up the second quarter and Corinna Toledo fired in another for the 'Eaters with 47 seconds left in the half to make it, 7-6, at intermission.
The Tigers outscored UCI 3-1 in the third quarter. Tara Prentice had the 'Eaters lone goal in the frame.
Natalie Seidemann and Eldrige each scored the Anteaters in the final quarter but it wasn't enough as UOP earned the upset win.
UC Irvine returns home to host UC San Diego Friday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
