Seidemann Has Career-Night as No. 9 UCI Powers Past No. 12 UCSD, 10-5

IRVINE, Calif. – Senior Natalie Seidemann finished with a career-high five goals as the ninth-ranked UC Irvine women's water polo teamed earned a 10-5 win over 12th-ranked UC San Diego, Friday evening at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The win boosts UCI to a 10-13 overall record. The Tritons fall to 20-11 on the season.
Three of Seidemann's five goals were assisted by Tara Prentice. Prentice finished the night with four assists and one steal. Julie Swieca tallied two goals while Allie Loomis, Kayleigh Schultz and Cara Borkovec added one apiece.
Jenna Phreaner finished with nine saves in goal.
Five different players each scored a goal for UCSD while Reilly Gallagher and Bennett Bugelli each played a half in goal. Gallagher had four saves and three steals while Bugelli made five stops.
UCI went 2-for-5 on powerplays while the Tritons could not convert on any extra-man situations, finishing 0-for-7. The 'Eaters also held advantages in shots (29-21) and steals (10-8).
Seidemann got things started with two quick goals to put the hosts up 2-0. UCSD's Taylor Onstott fired one past Phreaner to make it, 2-1, but Swieca answered with back-to-back goals to give UCI a 4-1 lead. The Tritons' Chanel Schilling scored with one second remaining in the first quarter, making it 4-2.
Prentice passed to Seidemann for a powerplay goal to open up the second quarter before UCSD scored two-straight. Schultz and Loomis added two more goals to give the Anteaters a 7-4 lead at the intermission.
UCI outscored UCSD 3-1 in the second half to seal the win.
Seidemann added two more goals in the second half while Borkovec had one. The Tritons' Grace Pevehouse scored on a made five-meter-penalty shot in the third quarter but the Anteaters shut out the visitors in the fourth frame to seal the win.
UCI returns to the pool Thursday, April 19 for its regular-season finale. The 'Eaters play Long Beach State at 7 p.m. It will also be Senior Night.
