
Seven Anteaters Honored By Big West; Joel Schneidmiller Named Freshman Of The Year

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine had its entire starting lineup named to Big West Men's Volleybll All-Conference teams, highlighted by three first-team honorees and Joel Schneidmiller selected as Freshman of the Year.
Karl Apfelbach, Aaron Koubi and Scott Stadick were named to the first team, while Dante Chakravorti and David Parker were honorable mention. Schneidmiller and Austin Wilmot were named to the All-Freshman team.
Stadick leads the Big West in hitting percentage (.421) and blocks (1.33). The sophomore middle blocker bettered his own school record for solo blocks in a single season with 28 currently. Stadick was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week five times this season, including this week after totaling over 14 blocks over eight sets against UC Santa Barbara.
Apfelbach is fourth in the league in kills (3.76) and points (4.50) and 10th in aces (0.31). The opposite was named Big West Player of the Week on Mar. 26 and has led the Anteaters in kills in 19 of 28 matches this season.
Koubi is second on the team with a 2.84 kills and 3.21 points average, which ranks 11th among Big West players in both categories. The outside hitter ranks fifth in the league, hitting .343.
Schneidmiller, who earned the distinction as the Big West's top freshman, is third on the club with a 245 kills, second with 15 aces, fifth with 83 digs and fourth in blocks with 63. The outside hitter also posted the conference's seventh-best hitting percentage (.328), while ranking No. 12 in kills per set (2.63). He earned Sports Imports/AVCA Division I Player of the Week as well as Big West Player of the Week accolades after UCI beat BYU twice in January. He earned Big West Freshman Player of the Week recognition four times.
Chakravorti ranks second in the Big West in assists with a 10.56 mark and 13th in digs at 1.56. The setter has guided UCI to a .330 hitting percentage, which ranks fifth nationally and third in the conference.
Parker leads the Big West in digs per set with a 2.38 average. He has recorded digs in double-figures 14 times this season, including a season-high 14 digs twice this year.
Wilmot is averaging 1.08 kills and 1.20 blocks per set over 60 sets. The middle blocker's 13 total blocks against UC San Diego is tops in the country this year and his 12 versus Fort Wayne is second most.
The Anteaters' seven all-conference selections were the most in the conference.
