LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team kicked off the Triton Invitational with five individuals competing in three events Friday at UC San Diego's Triton Track & Field Stadium.
Junior Adrienne Lee produced her second top-three performance of the year as she was third in the pole vault, clearing 11-05.75. Lee cruised through the first three rounds but was unable to get over the bar at 11-11.75, which is her personal best. Freshman Bryn Hyde did not record a height with the competition starting at 10-06.
Three 'Eaters started the day with the hammer throw where they were led by junior and school-record holder Barbara Coward, who finished ninth out of 42 competitors. Coward registered her best mark on her second attempt as she hit 179-04. That was good enough to move on to the finals for three more throws but she was unable to make an improvement. Last weekend, Coward shattered UCI's hammer record with a lifetime-best 187-07. Senior Alison Meegan was 12th with a toss of 175-01, while sophomore Brianna Villanueva came in 21st (149-00).
Coward added a 12th-place showing in the invitational section of the discus with a heave of 164-11. Villanueva also competed in the open section where she finished 12th (147-06).
