No. 7 UCI Wins Big West Battle With No. 17 UC Santa Barbara, 7-2

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 7 UC Irvine won its second game in Big West play with a 7-2 victory over T-No. 17 UC Santa Barbara at Anteater Aquatics Complex Saturday.
The Anteaters improve to 8-11 overall and 2-1 against Big West opponents.
Natalie Seidemann led UCI on offense, notching a hat trick, behind a three goal performance. Allie Loomis, Kayleigh Schultz, Megan Falcon and Tara Prentice added one goal apiece.
In goal, Jenna Phreaner made 10 saves, dished out an assist and grabbed a steal.
Despite committing 10 exclusions to the Gauchos one, UCI held advantages in shots (26-24) and steals (7-6).
Sarah Snyder scored both of UCSB's goals while Kenzi Snyder and Becca Buck split time in goal. Snyder finished with five saves while Buck tallied six.
The Gauchos were quick to score first, just 20 seconds into the game, when Snyder received a pass from Mollie Simmons. However, the Anteaters answered just 30 seconds later when Cara Borkovec fed Seidemann a ball to the center for a goal. Seidemann fired in another ball from the center position with 5:33 left in the first to give UCI a 2-1 lead. Schultz and Loomis each added goal to round out the scoring in the frame making it a 4-1 game after one quarter of play.
The Anteaters shut out UCSB in the second quarter while Seidemann and Prentice each had a goal to give UCI a five-point, 6-1, lead at the half.
The Gauchos held UCI scoreless in the third frame. Snyder converted on a five-meter penalty shot to make it a 6-2 game heading into the final quarter.
Falcon capped the scoring with a fast break goal in the fourth quarter. Phreaner was credited with the assist.
UCI play No. 12 Hartwick tonight at Anteater Aquatics Complex. First sprint is set for 6 p.m.
