‘Eaters Split Saturday Doubleheader

IRIVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's tennis team split its doubleheader on Satruday as it swept Hope International, 7-0, before dropping a 4-3 decision to Point Loma at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
With the split, UCI falls to 1-3 on the season. Hope International is 0-3 and Point Loma improves to 1-0.
UC Irvine 7, Hope International 0
UCI won by default at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5-6 due to forfeits.
The tandem of Yulin Chen and Flora Amiri set the tone winning at No. 1 doubles, 6-1. Danielle Garrido and Arianna Tilbury followed with a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot to take the doubles point.
The 'Eaters won at Nos. 1-4 singles to sweep the match. Ashlynn Hall got things started with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Matea Ancheta on court three. Emily Valenciano put UCI up 3-0 after a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 and Gillian Parker delievered the final blow to HIU, taking down Jessica Cornea, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.
Jaqueline Tsodikova also took No. 1 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-0.

The duo of Amiri and Chen won at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, but it wasn't enough as Stephanie Hazell/Stephanie Nguyen and Amiri and Chen fell in the No. 1 and 3 spots.
In singles, Chen earned her first collegiate win with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 defeat fo Carolina Cuevas on court two. Amiri grabbed a win at the No. 3 spot with a 7-6 (7-0), 5-7, 10-5 decision over Shelby Groeneveld.
Tsodikova picked a victory at the No. 6 spot but it wasn't enough as UCI dropped at No. 1, 4, and 5 spots.
UCI returns to the court to host BYU for a dual-match Thursday, Feb. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
