
No. 6 UC Irvine Extends Winning Streak To Eight With 6-3 Victory Over UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine extended its winning streak to eight straight with a 6-2 victory over No. 18 UC San Diego at the Canyonview Aquatic Center Sunday.
The Anteaters improve to 17-6 overall and will return to Big West action next Saturday (Apr. 8) at UC Santa Barbara.
Mary Brooks led the Anteaters with a pair of goals followed by Keana Eldridge, Mackenzie Milham, Kelsey Thornton and Allie Loomis with one goal each.
UCI goalkeeper Annika Nelson posted a season-high 12 saves.
A long pass from Annika Nelson found Mary Brooks breaking away from the pack and the All-American lobbed it over the UCSD keeper to get the scoring going at 5:45. That would be the lone goal of the first quarter.
Keana Eldridge fired a goal from the left side, courtesy of a McKenna Mitchell pass at 3:49 to put UCI up 2-0. Mackenzie Milham scored from almost the same spot as Eldridge at 1:15 to extend the lead to 3-0 at the half.
In the third period, Kelsey Thornton scored a power play goal at 6:56 before another long pass from Nelson to a streaking Brooks who found the back of the cage at 6:08, extending the Anteater lead to 5-0 heading in to the final period.
UCSD's Alexis Wiesler got the Tritons on the scoreboard at 7:40 with a goal on the first possession of the fourth period after a UCI exclusion, 5-1. Allie Loomis had a skip shot goal at 1:49, 6-1.The Tritons scored the last two goals of the game, one at 1:05 off a rebound then another from long range just before the final horn sounded.
