Anteaters Set Five Personal Records on Friday

TORRANCE, AZUSA & LONG BEACH, Calif. - Junior Persis William-Mensah had another impressive performance to lead the UC Irvine women's track & field team on Friday.
William-Mensah won the collegiate open section of the 100m at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance. She shaved .03 seconds off her lifetime best from last weekend with a blistering 11.41 (+2.8 wind). The Costa Mesa, Calif., native is currently the school record holder with a wind-legal 11.57, which she established at the Mondo Team Challenge on April 1.
Senior Megan George finished fourth out of 46 in the 100m hurdles as she clocked in at 13.82 seconds while running into a -1.0 headwind. Junior Tyra Jones contributed a 10th-place showing at 14.15 (-1.9).
Senior Crystal Lizaola set her second personal best in as many 800m races this year. She crossed the finish line in 2:10.50 to take third in her heat and 15th overall.
Sophomore Hope Bushnell was also 30th in the 100m (11.93). Bushnell, George, Jones and William-Mensah added a runner-up performance in the 4x100 relay (45.52).
On the first day of the Beach Invitational, senior Courtney Sharar established a personal-record 38:59.04 to place seventh in the 10000m.
Junior Alison Meegan notched a lifetime-best 155-09 in the hammer throw, while classmate Dazhana Bauer-Jackson went for 156-07. Junior Raena Ramirez (122-09) and senior Melanie Speech (120-08) also competed in the javelin throw.
UCI had a small contingent in Azusa for the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational. Sophomore Hallie Pullum led the way in the 800m with a lifetime-best 2:15.28. Freshman Brenda Dorantes also registered a time of 2:18.62 in her first collegiate 800m race.
UC Irvine will close out the weekend tomorrow at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach.
