UCI Women's Tennis Falls to Hawai'i on Senior Day

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's tennis team fell to Big West-leading Hawai'i, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
UCI recognized its three seniors - Cassidy Branstine, Hali Dickson and Alex Harrigan - prior to their final home match.
Dickson teamed up with junior Vivien Dvali to win their second-straight doubles match at No. 2. After dropping the first two games, the 'Eater duo came storming back for a 6-2 triumph over Cindy Nguyen/Klara Priblyova. That tied the doubles score at 1-1, but the 'Bows eventually came away with the point-clinching victory at the top of the lineup.
In singles, Hawai'i (12-6, 7-0 Big West) went on top, 3-0, with straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Freshman Jacqueline Tsodikova then got the home team on the board as she dispatched Michelle Pits, 6-4, 6-1, at the sixth spot. Shortly after Tsodikova's victory, the Rainbow Wahine clinched the dual on court four where sophomore Stephanie Hazell came up short against Roxanne Resma, 6-4, 6-1.
Junior Ashlynn Hall put up a good fight at No. 5, but was edged by Nikola Dolakova, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5. Dvali, who had missed five outings with an injury, saw her two-match win streak snapped with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Nguyen at the second position. Freshman Constance Branstine also dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to 56th-ranked Petra Melounova at No. 1, while Cassidy Branstine fell to Marina Hruba at No. 3.
UC Irvine (3-16, 0-6 Big West) returns to action on Thursday, April 13, when it heads to Northridge for a 2 p.m. Big West showdown at CSUN.
