
Big Second Half Pushes UC Irvine Past Bucknell 16-4

ANN ARBOR, Mich. –No. 6 UC Irvine used a big second half to beat Bucknell 16-4 in the second game of the day at the Michigan Wolverine Invitational.
The Anteaters (10-6) out-scored the Hawks 10-1 in the final two periods.
UCI was led by McKenna Mitchell's four goals. Mitchell, who scored in every quarter, tied her season-high which she has had four times this season.
Kelsey Thornton added three goals and Cara Borkovec, Cambria Shockley and Raegan Castillo each had two goals. Allie Loomis, Gabby Pierandozzi, Natalie Seidemann also had a goal.
Mitchell scored her first goal of the contest at 4:19 then Cara Borkovec posted a pair to give UCI a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period. Micthell started the scoring in the second quarter (7:14) followed by goals by Cambria Shockley (4:04) and Thornton (2:10).
For the third consecutive period Mitchell scored UCI's first goal at 6:18. Back-to-back goals by Thornton opened up the 9-3 advantage. Shockley was first on the board in the final quarter (5:58) as four more unanswered goals by UCI closed out the game.
In a quick turnaround, UCI will battle host Michigan at 5:00 a.m. PT tomorrow. The Anteaters end the tournament against Pacific at 9:40 a.m.
