
No. 5 UC Irvine Wins Sixth In A Row At No. 12 San Diego State, 9-7

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Cambria Shockley scored with 31 seconds left to seal a 9-7 victory for No. 5 UC Irvine over No. 12 San Diego State at the Aztec Aquaplex Thursday.
UCI wins its sixth in a row and improves to 15-6 overall. San Diego State suffers its first loss at home and snaps a four game winning streak as the Aztecs go to 9-8 overall.
Junior Mary Brooks led the Anteaters with three goals and two assists followed by seniors McKenna Mitchell and Shockley with two goals each. Junior Natalie Seidemann and senior Kelsey Thornton also added a goal in the win. Goalkeeper Jenna Phreaner posted nine saves.
The score was tied 2-2 after the first period then the Anteaters out-scored the Aztecs 3-0 in the next period, getting goals from Mary Brooks at 5:42 and again three minutes later at 2:42 and another from Kelsey Thornton at 5:20.
McKenna Mitchell (6:31) and Natalie Seidemann (4:24) scored in the third quarter to hold a 7-5 advantage.
SDSU started the scoring in the final period before Mary Brooks took a pass from Corinna Toledo and scored to maintain an 8-6 lead. The Aztecs scored at 1:49 to edge closer, 8-7, but Shockley ended the scoring with 31 seconds to secure the 9-7 win.
UCI will take next week off for final exams and will return to action Apr. 1 at CSUN.
