LA JOLLA, Calif. – Eighth-ranked UC Irvine rallied with three goals in the final period, but ran out of time as the Anteaters lost to No. 5 Arizona State, 9-8 at the Triton Invitational.
The Anteaters (6-3) will face No. 6 Michigan at 4:30 p.m. in the third place game.
All-American McKenna Mitchell led UC Irvine with four goals, including two in the final period. Julie Swieca buried a goal with 48 seconds left, but UCI couldn't get another before time expired.
Allie Loomis also had a pair of goals and Mary Brooks recorded one for the Anteaters.
