No. 6 Anteaters Trump Broncos, 15-6, to Open Invite

LA JOLLA, Calif. --- UC Irvine advanced past the first round of the UCSD Triton Invite with a 15-6 win over Santa Clara Saturday morning in Triton Pool.
The Broncos (2-2) kept pace to start all knotted up at 2-2 after one period.
The 'Eaters (3-2) jumped on Santa Clara for six goals in the second period topped by a hat trick from Danielle Warde to take an 8-4 lead into the half.
The defense took control in the third period shutting out the Broncos, and didn't allow a goal until midway through the fourth period as UCI built up a 10-goal lead before settling on the final total of 15-6.
Along with Warde, four other 'Eaters had two-goal performances while Jillian Yocum captained the defense with 7 saves.
UCI awaits its next opponent, the winner between UC San Diego and Marist, to play at 5:20 p.m. to finish up day one of the UCSD Triton Invite.
