FIBA World Cup

BARCELONA, Spain --- UC Irvine alum Adam Parada and Mexico face the USA in the Round of 16 at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Barcelona Saturday.

The game is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. (PT) and will be carried on ESPN2.

This is the first time that Mexico has advanced to the Round of 16 in the tournament.

Mexico qualified for the Final Phase with an 87-71 win over South Korea Thursday.  Parada, who started the game, had four points and six rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

Parada, who competed for the Anteaters from 2000-04, was a member of UCI's first Big West Conference regular-season championship teams in 2001 and 2002.

He ranks No. 4 in school history with 775 rebounds and is eighth in career scoring with 1,320 points.  He is one of just five players in the Anteater record book to record at least 1,000 points and 700 boards in his career.

Parada was an All-Big West second-team honoree in 2002 and 2003.

As a senior, he led the 'Eaters in scoring (12.3) and rebounding (6.6), and received All-Big West honorable mention recognition.

Parada led UCI in rebounding each of his four seasons, the only Anteater player to accomplish that feat.

He ranks second in career blocked shots at UCI with 149.
