
Men's Basketball Inks Talented Guard Josiah Johnson

IRVINE, Calif. โ UC Irvine head coach Russell Turner announced the signing of talent guard Josiah Johnson.
"We are thrilled to welcome Josiah Johnson to the UC Irvine basketball family," Turner said. ย "Josiah is an exceptional young man from a tremendous family, and throughout the recruiting process it became clear that his character, work ethic, and values aligned perfectly with the culture we have built within our program. As a local product out of Mayfair High School, Josiah has earned national recognition through his competitiveness, consistency, and commitment to development.
We have recruited him closely over the years and have enjoyed building a strong relationship with both him and his family throughout that journey. Josiah has a unique ability to impact winning in a variety of ways. He has a natural instinct for scoring, creates opportunities for teammates as a playmaker, and brings tremendous toughness and instincts as a defender. His versatility on both ends of the floor makes him one of the most complete guards in his class. We believe Josiah has the talent, mindset, and character to make an immediate impact at UC Irvine, and we are excited for what his future holds as an Anteater."
Johnson arrives to Irvine from Mayfair High School, where he averaged 20.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.2 steals per game as a senior. The 6-5 guard ranked as the No. 6 prospect in California and No. 57 overall player in the 247Sports class of 2026 rankings.We have recruited him closely over the years and have enjoyed building a strong relationship with both him and his family throughout that journey. A consensus four-star recruit, Johnson starred on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with Cali Gold, ultimately choosing the Anteaters over UCLA, USC, Cal, and San Diego State among others. A native of Long Beach, Calif., Johnson also developed through the Mentally Fit Basketball program during his youth.
