FIBA World Cup

GRAN CANARIA, Spain --- UC Irvine alumnus Adam Parada is competing for Mexico in the FIBA Basketball World Cup that is currently being conducted in Spain.

Parada had five points, four rebounds and two blocked shots in 23 minutes of Wednesday's 70-62 loss to Australia in Group D play.

He had a pair of blocked shots in Tuesday's 79-55 victory over Angola.

Mexico, 1-3 in group play, needs to defeat Korea Thursday to advance to the Round of 16 in Barcelona and a likely meeting against the USA.

Parada, who competed for the Anteaters from 2000-04, was a member of UCI's first Big West Conference regular-season championship teams in 2001 and 2002.

He ranks No. 4 in school history with 775 rebounds and is eighth in career scoring with 1,320 points.  He is one of just five players in the Anteater record book to record at least 1,000 points and 700 boards in his career.

Parada was an All-Big West second team honoree in 2002 and 2003.

As a senior, he led the 'Eaters in scoring (12.3) and rebounding (6.6), and received All-Big West honorable mention recognition.

Parada led UCI in rebounding each of his four seasons, the only Anteater player to accomplish that feat.

He ranks second in career blocked shots at UCI with 149.
