No. 6 UCI Drops Program-Record 23 Goals in Win

POMONA, Calif. --- UCI flexed its muscles on Sunday capping off a pair of wins with a 23-goal performance against Cal Lutheran in the Convergence Tournament.
McKenna Mitchell scored the game's first two goals as part of an eight-goal quarter to get UCI off to a good start. She added the first two of the second quarter as UCI went up 10-0 before Cal Lutheran broke the shutout, however, the 'Eaters held the 11-1 advantage at the half.
UC Irvine (15-6) snapped up seven more goals on the other side of the half including a pair from Danielle Warde, and the Anteaters would finish things off with a five-spot in the final quarter highlighted by Ambyr Stewart's goals with 2:23 remaining for goal No. 23 to set a new program-high for the 'Eaters.
The 23 goals tops the 22 UCI scored in a win over Vanguard in 2011. McKenna Mitchell's five led the way, and six other 'Eaters recorded multiple goals. Annika Nelson stopped three shots for her second win of the day.
UCI now takes a couple weeks off until Sunday, March 23, when it welcomes Brown to Anteater Aquatics Complex for a 4:00 p.m. match.
