IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI got back into water polo action with a 17-7 defeat of the Brown Bears Sunday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The Bears (8-10) kept it close in the first quarter with goals from Liz Rosen and Sarah Presant and trailed the 'Eaters by just one at the break.
UCI (16-6) stepped on the gas with six second period goals led by a pair from Jessy Cardey to extend the lead to five at the half, 9-4.
Mackenzie Milham added a goal, assist, and a steal in the third Danielle Warde scored twice as the led ballooned to eight before three more Anteater goals in the fourth to finish the match off at 17-7.
Danielle Warde led the way with four goals and added a pair of assists and steals. Jessy Cardey also scored a hat trick including one on a penalty.
Michaela Pierandozzi returned to the pool with two goals, an assist, a steal, and two earned exclusions. Jillian Yocum and Annika Nelson split time in the net each stopping six shots.
For UCI, it begins conference play with a trip to Hawaii to face the Rainbow Wahine on Fri. Mar. 28 at 6:00 p.m.
