
Christian Bergman Receives Chuck Stevens Award

IRVINE, Calif. --- Christian Bergman, who pitched for UC Irvine from 2007-10, was feted at the 88th annual Association of Professional Ballplayers of America's "Dinner and Get-Together" earlier this month.
Bergman received the Chuck Stevens award, given to the Southern California resident who had the most outstanding season in the minor leagues. Drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2010, Bergman posted a 16-5 record and a 3.65 ERA with the Modesto Nuts of the California League last season. He struck out 121 batters in 162.2 innings in 27 starts for Modesto en route to earning league Pitcher of the Year honors.
Bergman joins previous award winners Keith Ginter, Sean Burroughs, Jeremy Reed, Jerry Owens, Jason Hirsh, Ryan Madson, Tommy Hanson, Evan Longoria, Freddie Freeman and Brett Pill, all of whom have played in the major leagues.
Bergman was 23-12 in four years at UCI, posting identical 9-3 marks his junior and senior seasons. The right-hander struck out a career 191 batters in 281.1 innings while walking just 53 batters.
