HEADERS

FREE KICKS

  • UCI defeated sixth-ranked BYU in Provo, Utah, the highest-ranked win in program history.
  • UCI and No. 12 Texas A&M played to a 0-0 draw in an exhibition match.
  • UC Irvine's non-conference schedule ranked as the ninth-toughest according to allwhitekit.com, and those opponents currently have a combined record of 67-52-17.
  • The Anteaters' schedule includes five schools currently in the top-80 RPI; Denver (14), Cal (21), BYU (29), Washington State (43), and Long Beach State (68).

IN THE BOX

  • UCI is currently tied for second in the Big West alongside UCSB and UC Riverside with nine points. Cal Poly sits atop the standings with 15 points. LBSU trails with eight points while CSUF and Hawaii have seven each.
  • The Anteaters' +4 goal differential ranks second in the Big West behind UCSB (+6).
  • UCI was picked second, tied with LBSU, in the Big West Preseason Coaches poll behind favorite CSUF.

CORNERS

  • Two Anteaters have been named Big West Player of the Week in 2013. Jordan Bruce was named defensive player of the week for the second time on Oct. 14. She and Natalia Ledezma earned offensive and defensive honors the week of Sept. 16.
  • UC Irvine has made the Big West Tournament field in five of the six seasons under Head Coach Scott Juniper.
  • The 'Eaters bring back six starters from the 2012 squad including preseason award-winners Natalia Ledezma, Haley O'Brien, and Corey Tobin.
  • Ledezma was named the preseason favorite for Big West Offensive Player of the Year according to collegesportsmadness.com.

IN THE BOOKS

  • Natalia Ledezma has inserted herself all along the Anteater record books. She became the 10th Anteater to reach 50 career points and stands eighth all-time alongside Simone Ferrara with 53.
  • Ledezma's scored her 19th career goal vs. UC Riverside tying her for 10th in program history with Jaycee Leitner.
  • The goal was also her sixth career game-winning goal of the her career moving her into a tie for seventh all-time with four other Anteaters.
  • Ledezma's 15 assists put her all alone in seventh.
  • Jenn Randazzo ranks fourth all-time with 22 goalkeeper wins tied with Amee Chapman. She also moves to a tie for sixth with 11 career shutouts.
  • Corey Tobin ranks ninth in program history with nine wins.
  • Zoya Farzaneh played her 74th career match on Sunday, four away from the top-ten.
  • Senior Jordan Bruce recorded her first career goal as an Anteater Thursday vs. LBSU.
  • Freshman Sammie James scored in the 81st minute against Cal, 30 seconds into her Anteater career.

HAWAIIAN PUNCHES

  • UCI is 3-0-1 lifetime against Hawaii, 1-0 in Hawaii. The teams met to at UCI in 2012 is a scoreless tie that saw 34 shots and 17 shots on goal from UCI.
  • Hawaii is 7-7-1 in 2013, 2-3-1 in Big West play with wins over UC Davis and UCSB.
  • Hawaii swept the two UCI common opponents this season as it tripped to Oregon and Oregon State at the same time as the 'Eaters.
  • Tiana Fujimoto has nine of the Wahine's 15 goals and six of the seven game-winners.
  • Kama Pascua has added four goals while Krystal Pascua has five assists to her name.
  • Monk Berger has started 11 matches with a 6-5-1 record. She has stopped 42 shots and holds a 1.01 goals-against-average and six shuouts.
  • Hawaii tops the conference in shots and yellow cards while also last in offsides.

MATADOR MARKS

  • UCI is 5-7-4 all-time against the Matadors, 2-3-2 on Northridge. The squads tied, 0-0, at UCI last season.
  • CSUN is 5-10-1 in 2013 with four wins coming at home. The Matadors are 0-4-1 in Big West play.
  • CSUN fell to common opponent USD twice while recording wins over Oregon State and LMU.
  • Brittanie Sakajian leads the team with three goals. She and Hannah Wissler each lead CSUN with six points. Leandra Walker adds four assists.
  • Cynthia Tafoya has 13 starts in net, all five wins. She's stopped 53 shots while allowing 19 goals.
  • CSUN ranks near the bottom in most statistical categories except shots which it's second.

SOCCER AT THE NEXT LEVEL

  • CoCo Goodson was drafted by Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League based in New Jersey. Sky Blue FC fell 2-0 to Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd of the Western New York Flash in the NWSL semifinals. During the season, Goodson scored one goal.
  • Rachel Wood joined club HK Kopavogur / Vikingur Reykjavik of Iceland. The club finished 5-13-2, ninth in the Urvalsdeild league. Wood scored her first professional goal Aug. 13th in the 51st minute against Thor / KA, and added a second in a 2-1 season finale win against Afturelding with the  eventual game-winner in the 42nd minute.
