
UCI Ends Season 31-25 For Ninth Straight Season of 30-Plus Wins

UCI FINISHES FOURTH IN BIG WEST: UC Irvine concluded the 2012 season at 31-25 and 13-11 in the Big West. It is the ninth straight season the Anteaters have recorded 30 or more wins and have reached the 30-win milestone nine times since reinstating baseball in 2002.
GILLESPIE GETS 200TH WIN: Head coach Mike Gillespie won his 200th game following UCI's 10-1 win against UC Davis Sunday. With the victory, Gillespie has now accumulated a 200-97 (.673) record with the Anteaters. In 41 years of coaching at the Division I level, Gillespie owns a record of 963-568-2.
D.J. DOTS RECORD BOOKS: D.J. Crumlich (Irvine/HS) ended a stellar career at UC Irvine and worked his way into the annals in five categories. The senior shortstop posted 205 career games to tie for fifth, was sixth in at-bats with 732, fourth in runs scored (139), tied for fifth in doubles (45) and was fourth in walks with 97.
The shortstop led the Anteaters in hits this season with 72, doubles with 16, runs with 39 and shared the batting title with senior Christian Ramirez (Santa Ana/Cypress College) at .324. He was also second on the team with 26 walks and led all players with six sacrifice flies.
In four games last week, Crumlich paced the team with a .375 average, batting 6 for 16 with three runs scored.
SLAUGHT CAPS CAREER SIXTH IN WIN PERCENTAGE: Senior Crosby Slaught (Santa Barbara/HS) finished his career on the mound with a 23-10 record, good for sixth in the records. He overtook Dennis Nicholson, who recorded a .692 mark (18-8) from 1970-71. Slaught's 49 career starts tie for fifth with Daniel Bibona (2007-10). His 23 wins also tie for eighth with Christian Bergman (2007-10) and Bob Barlow (1970-73).
In four seasons, Slaught pitched 249.1 innings and struck out 173 while pitching in six combined shutouts and leaves UCI with a 3.93 ERA.
LITCHFIELD JUMPS INTO TOP 10: Jimmy Litchfield (La Habra/Sonora HS) made a team-high 29 appearances on the mound for the Anteaters this season to tie for ninth in the single-season records. The lefty logged four more appearances than he did in his freshman campaign and now has 54 in two years.
In 2012 Litchfield was 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA. He had 30 strikeouts in 45 innings and walked 13 while giving up 18 earned runs. He held opposing teams to a .251 batting average and pitched in two shutouts. His longest outing this year was a 4.1 inning affair at Cal Poly, where he struck out a season-best four batters.
BROCK PITCHES SEASON-HIGH TO END SEASON: Evan Brock (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) dealt a season-high six innings against UC Davis Sunday to lead the team to a season-ending win.
The right-hander held the Aggies to one run on three hits while striking out one to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Brock, coming off a redshirt season in 2011, posted a 2.12 ERA and struck out 25 in 34 innings. He walked 11 and allowed just eight earned runs in 18 appearances while holding opposing teams to a .186 batting average.
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP FOR THURMAN: Andrew Thurman (Orange/Orange Lutheran HS) had a six-game win streak snapped in the loss to UC Davis last Friday but the right-hander proved himself to be the ace of the staff, boasting an 8-3 overall record and a 2.66 ERA. Thurman, who held opposing batters to a .195 average, struck out 69 batters and walked 23 in 98 innings of work.
Thurman was voted the Big West Pitcher of the Week three times this year and hurled four complete games, including the fifth no-hitter in school history against Long Beach State.
In two seasons Thurman holds a 10-6 record with a 3.13 ERA.
PARMENTER RACES TO No. 8 SPOT: Race Parmenter (Huntington Beach/Golden West College) also made his mark in the single season records after notching eight saves this year to move into eighth. Parmenter was second on the team with 22 appearances and struck out 28 in 27.2 innings while walking 11 and giving up just seven earned runs for a 2.28 ERA. The right-hander made one start on the mound and pitched in a two of the team's eight shutouts.
FOX TOPS 'EATERS IN RBI: Jordan Fox (Hacienda Heights/Bishop Amat HS) drove in three runs last week while batting .313 with five hits and ends the season with a team-high 37 RBI. Fox, who also had three doubles, finishes second on the team with 68 hits and third with 11 doubles to go along with a team-high 10 steals.
Fox led the team with a 13 game hitting streak and reached safely in 20 consecutive games for a team-high.
SPENCER SHINES IN FIRST YEAR: Connor Spencer (Trabuco Canyon/Tesoro HS) put together a stellar freshman year, joining three seniors with batting averages of over .300. Spending the majority of the year as a designated hitter, Spencer hit .306 in 54 games and totaled 52 hits and 30 RBI. He also had three doubles and tied for first with five triples. He struck out just 20 times in 170 at-bats and reached safely in 16 consecutive games, third-best on the team.
Spencer tied for first with nine multiple-RBI games and put together a 10 game hitting streak.
REYES RACKS UP THE WALKS: Tommy Reyes (Rancho Cucamonga/Bishop Amat HS) made it into the top 10 in career walks after amassing 94 to sit fifth in the UCI records.
Reyes was second on team with 13 doubles, 31 RBI, 36 runs scored and nine steals to go along with 54 hits. The second baseman also topped the team with 33 walks while batting .292.
Reyes was fourth with 15 multiple-hit games and tied for first with nine multiple-RBI games.
