UC Irvine Finishes Third at Aztec Coastal Classic

SAN DIEGO - The UC Irvine women's cross country team opened the 2026 season with a third-place finish at the Aztec Coastal Classic Thursday evening.
Sophomore Grace Baxter was the Anteaters' top runner in sixth, completing the 5K course at SDSU Mission Valley River Park in a personal-record 17:41.6.
Junior Anna Soares was next across the line for UCI in 11th with a time of 18:06.5. Juniors Daisy Penney (18:16.9) and Breckyn Kornachuk (18:18.7) also placed among the top-15. Kornachuk's time was a lifetime best.
Rounding out UC Irvine's top seven were sophomore Kaitlin Kenney (18:23.4), freshman Allie Harman (18:39.7), and freshman Alahna Thomas (18:45.3).
Host San Diego State took home the team title with 27 points, and UC San Diego's Elle Marsyla was the individual champion at 16:45.3.
The 'Eaters will return to action in two weeks when they make their way to the Inland Empire for the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19.
