UC Irvine Takes Down Conference Rival Matadors

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI maintained the momentum throughout to earn a place in the seventh-place match Sunday afternoon at Marian Bergeson Aquatics Center at Corona del Mar High School.
Danielle Warde (Huntington Beach / Edison HS) and Amy Riddering (Sacramento / El Camino Fundamental HS) scored early for UCI who led 2-1 after one.
The 'Eaters (11-3) opened it up to 4-1 thanks to a pair by Jessy Cardey (Riverside / Poly HS), but CSUN brought it back to one at the half, 4-3.
UCI got some breathing room and led 7-5 entering the fourth.
Cardey would complete the hat trick and Jillian Yocum (Riverside / Poly HS) shut the Matadors out to preserve the 10-5 win.
The 'Eaters will play for ninth place against the upstart Gauchos of UCSB at 1:30 p.m. over at Corona del Mar HS.
