UC Irvine Storms Back in Singles for 6-1 Win

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- No. 58 UC Irvine came back from an early doubles loss to sweep all six singles and down LMU, 6-1, at LMU Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
Franziska Goettsching (Heitersheim, Germany / Faust Gymnasium) and Kristina Smith (Laguna Niguel / Dana Hills HS) were finally cut down in doubles action, and, along with a loss by the Facey sisters, gave up the doubles point to LMU
UCI (5-4) would come back to take care of business in singles. Smith would win in straight sets at No. 1 while Kat Facey (Cameron Park / Ponderosa HS) would follow suit. The other four singles players took it to three sets to get wins including Goettsching and Stephanie Hammel (Placentia / Valencia HS), who got bumped up to the No. 5 slot, who would come back to win after dropping the first set.
The 'Eaters are off until next weekend when they host Big West schools UCSB and Cal Poly for 11:00 a.m. matches at the Anteater Tennis Stadium on March 3rd and 4th.
