'Eaters Leave Terrapins Behind with Quick Start

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI continued on its winner's-bracket run with a 12-6 victory over No. 17 Maryland in the second match of day one at the UCSD Triton Invite.
Maryland (4-2) actually got the whole-shot with a pair of early goals, but UCI would respond with eight straight spanning into the early part of the third period. Kelsey Klatt (Fresno / Sunnyside HS) provided goals six through eight and led the team with three goals on the afternoon. Katie Croghan (Yorba Linda / Rosary HS) continued her good showing on her birthday with the first two goals to get UC Irvine (7-1) into the game.
The Terrapins cut the lead down from nine to six down the stretch, but the 'Eaters would finish on top.
No. 6 UCI will now play the winner of San Diego State and Cal State Northridge for a chance to go to the championship match. The first match will take place at 12:30 p.m.
