Privett Rises to the Top
October 10, 2011 | Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- The youth movement is in full swing as UC Irvine saw its second freshman receive Big West Player of the Week honors this season.
Midfielder Cami Privett (Bakersfield / Frontier HS) figured into both goals over the weekend as UCI scored a pair of 1-0 victories over Big West foes, UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
Privett fed senior Dana Sanderlin (Upland / Upland) for the game-winning assist on Friday night. She would respond with her own goal on Sunday in the 72nd minute to defeat Cal Poly, her second game-winner of the season. Her three-point weekend gave her 10 on the year making her just the fifth freshman since 2000 with 10+ points.
Privett is the fifth different player from UCI to receive a player of the week award. She along with Lexi Kopf (Sonora / Sonora HS) and Natalia Ledezma won it on the offensive end while CoCo Goodson (Ramona / University of Texas) and fellow freshman, Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS) earned defensive honors.
Privett and the Anteaters are back in Big West action with two big-time matches. They head to Cal State Fullerton, Fri. Oct. 14, for a 7:00 p.m. tilt with the Titans before coming back home for a 6:00 p.m. start against rival Long Beach State, Sun. Oct. 16.
