Krystle Evans

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Krystle Evans is in her first year with the UC Irvine women's basketball team as she was hired as an assistant coach in May, 2016.

Evans comes to UCI from fellow Big West member UC Santa Barbara where she served as the Director of Operations in 2015-16.

Prior to her one-year stint at UCSB, Evans was an assistant coach at Los Angeles Southwest College and View Park Preparatory High School. She spent four seasons with both programs.

As a player, Evans was a standout student-athlete at Crenshaw High School where she was a four-time first-team all-league and all-city selection. She also garnered all-state honors as a senior.

Evans' outstanding work on the court and in the classroom earned her a scholarship at UCLA, however, a career-ending knee injury kept her from playing with the Bruins. Evans, though, did not need basketball to be a standout amongst her peers in Westwood. As one of 96 African-American students in her class, she fought for change within the UCLA community as she participated in numerous rallies demanding that the admissions board revise the way they review applications. As a result, the university adopted a new review process that incorporates a "holistic approach," to the way applications are reviewed.

During her time at UCLA, Evans was a Chancellors' Blue and Gold Scholar, a Research Rookie, a McNair Scholar, a Vice Provost for Pre-College Scholars (VIPS) Mentor, and was published four times. She went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in political science with a United States government concentration and education minor in 2010.

Following graduation, her hard work and leadership qualities earned her a California's 30 Under 30 Award, the Wasserman Research Scholar Award, Marguerite LaMotte's Rosa Parks Leadership Award and the LAUSD Trailblazer Award.

Evans is also a Past Regional Representative of the Far West Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Currently she is working on her Masters of Arts Degree in Kinesiology at Fresno Pacific University.
