Father Jurgen was a three-time Olympian in water polo with the German National Team as well as the team captain for the silver medalist FINA World Cup team in 1983.

Mother Diane played volleyball at Oklahoma Christian, while sister, Jennifer, played water polo at USC and for the German National Team.
