Jake Liechty is in his second year as an assistant coach for the UC Irvine men’s water polo team.
In 2024, Liechty was on staff for the Anteaters' second-straight Big West regular season title. They went a perfect 5-0 in conference, finished the season with 18 overall wins, and had a top-10 final national ranking.
Liechty graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in business economics in 2023, and went on to complete UCI's Master of Innovation and Entrepreneurship program in 2024. He joined the men’s water polo team in 2019, but did not play his first two years after redshirting and seeing the 2020 season canceled due to the pandemic. Liechty played in 73 games over the next three years (2021-23), and led the ‘Eaters to both the Big West regular season and tournament championships as a senior. The defender closed out the 2023 campaign with a career-best 49 points on 18 goals and 31 assists.
