J.T. Bloodworth

J.T. Bloodworth begins his seventh year as part of the UC Irvine coaching staff. Bloodworth joined the UC Irvine coaching staff in 2019 baseball season as an assistant coach. Bloodworth’s duties at UC Irvine include recruiting, working with the hitters and infielders.

In Bloodworth’s first year as an assistant in 2019, the Anteaters finished with an overall record of 37-17, and went 17-7 in the Big West Conference, finishing 2nd. After the shortened 2020 season, due to Covid-19, the 2021 UC Irvine team won the Big West Conference Championship with a record of 32-8, with an overall record of 43-18. Ranked 17th in the country, the Anteaters earned a bid to the NCAA Regional at Stanford, falling short in the regional final.

In 2021, UC Irvine’s offense finished the 2021 season with an overall .300 Batting Average, .400 On Base Percentage, and a .448 Slugging Percentage. The Anteaters recorded 627 hits, which ranked 7th in the country. In Big West Conference play, the 2021 team in a led in several offensive categories: Batting Average (.314), Slugging Percentage (.469), On Base Percentage (.411), Runs (312), Hits (432), Doubles (84) and Triples (14).

Prior to UC Irvine, Bloodworth spent six seasons at UC San Diego, as an assistant coach, where they made two NCAA Division II College World Series appearances, finishing runner- up in 2017, four regional appearances, and two CCAA Conference Tournament Championships. Through Bloodworth’s time at UC San Diego, the program had a record of 218-118, seven players drafted, two that signed free agent contracts, and achieved a program record of having four players drafted in one single year (2018).

Before coming to California, Bloodworth’s coaching career began at New Mexico State University, from 2009 through 2011, where he served under Head Coach Rocky Ward and Hall of Famer Gary Ward. During his time at NMSU, the Aggies had a record of 114-64-1, setting a program record of 44 wins in a season, in 2009.

In 2012, Bloodworth coached at Lon Morris Junior College, in Jacksonville, Texas, where he also taught classes in the kinesiology department. Other coaching stops include the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Bloodworth, from Dallas, Texas, started his collegiate playing career in 2004 at The University of Arizona, playing under another Hall of Fame Coach, Andy Lopez. Bloodworth later transferred to Dallas Baptist University in 2006, he played under Eric Newman (2006, 2007), and Dan Heefner (2008). Bloodworth was named to the 2007 NCAA Division I All-Independent Team, and in 2008 helped DBU to a 37-19 record and a first-ever NCAA Regional berth. Bloodworth also recognizes Major League Baseball Coach, Perry Hill, as a huge influence in his development as a player and a coach. Bloodworth graduated from Dallas Baptist University in the spring of 2009 with a Sport Management degree. In 2010, he received his Masters Degree in Sport Administration. Graduate of Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas, where he played for Coach Jay Higgins.
