OFF THE TEE
The UC Irvine women's golf team is set to tee off in its second tournament of the 2026-27 season at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 21-23, at Red Sky Ranch and Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo. The 'Eaters continue their new campaign after tying for 11th at last week's season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
UCI will face a competitive 20-team field at the Red Sky Classic, including New Mexico State, Miami, Mercer, UNC Asheville, Northern Arizona, Ball State, Denver, Kansas, Eastern Michigan, LSU, USC, Texas A&M, Colorado, Louisiana-Monroe, East Tennessee State, Pepperdine and Arizona. The Anteaters will also face Big West opponent Cal State Fullerton.
The 'Eaters will once again turn to newcomers Zoe Sprecher, Jio Yoo and Obi Chan, who each made their Anteater debuts at last week's season-opening tournament. Veterans Hayoung Lee and Katherine Gerbing will make their season debuts as UCI looks to build on its strong start to the 2026-27 campaign.
Sprecher led the way for UC Irvine at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, tying for 10th at even-par 216 (71-71-74). She opened her Anteater career with a collegiate-best finish, carding back-to-back rounds of one-under 71 before closing with a two-over 74. Sprecher also tied for eighth in the field with 11 birdies and recorded 32 pars.
Yoo also made an immediate impact in her first collegiate tournament, tying for 28th with a 54-hole score of 221 (72-75-74). She finished with 10 birdies and 29 pars while tying for ninth in par-5 scoring at 4.67. Yoo will look to carry that momentum into her second collegiate tournament this week.
Chan rounded out UCI's newcomers at the season opener, tying for 49th with a 229 (79-75-75). She recorded seven birdies and 31 pars throughout the tournament and will look to continue making an impact for the 'Eaters at the Red Sky Classic.
Katherine Gerbing will make her season debut after earning All-Big West Honorable Mention honors last season while posting a 73.80 scoring average across 15 rounds. She also recorded three top-20 finishes, including a pair of top-10 performances. Gerbing will look to carry that success into her junior campaign as she takes the course for the first time this season.
Hayoung Lee will also make her season debut after competing in nine rounds during her sophomore season. Lee posted a career-low 68 in the second round of the Golf Iconic Classic on Oct. 14, 2025, and will look to build on that performance as she begins her junior campaign this week.
