'Eaters Top Chinese Taipei White, 88-67, to Open 2026 Jones Cup

NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan – To start UC Irvine men's basketball Jones Cup journey, the 'Eaters scored an 88-67 victory early Friday morning against the Chinese Taipei White squad in New Taipei City.
The scoring was led by veterans and youth with Harrison Carrington putting home 16 points and adding 13 rebounds while second-year Luke Isaak got his first collegiate action scored a team-high 20 points with help from six three-pointers.

First quarter began with Chinese Taipei taking the early lead before UC Irvine kicked it into gear. Jovan Jester Jr., Ben Egbo, and Olivier Rioux all led the early charge with four points each including a dunk from Rioux to open his account with UCI on top, 20-15, through the opening quarter. Mason Hodges put home his first Anteater points with a three-pointer, and Harrison Carrington grabbed five rebounds alone.
Both offenses were clicking in the second quarter with 48 points between them. Luke Isaak made his presence felt going 3-of-4 from three to open his Anteater account. Carrington dropped in six more while Tama Isaac added four to keep their lead against the hosts, 46-37.
UCI put some distance between them and the Chinese Taipei squad in the third quarter out-scoring them, 29-14. Isaak hit two more threes along with three rebounds in an 8-point quarter. Carrington also scored eight with help from a 6-for-6 free throw showing and four more rebounds. Rioux grabbed three boards and scored four points to help build the lead to 75-51, Anteaters.
The fourth quarter was led by Bryce Goldman added four of his six points and other contributions by Jovan Jester Jr.'s four rebounds, a sixth three-pointer by Luke Isaak, and buckets by Rioux, Hodges, and Josh Palmer to secure the 88-67 victory.
