LA QUINTA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team is tied for fifth after Sunday's opening round of the 2026 Big West Men's Golf Championship at La Quinta Country Club.
The Anteaters combined for a 5-count-4 total of 293 (+5). They are two strokes behind UC San Diego and UC Davis, who are tied for third, and three back of Cal Poly in second. Top-seeded and 28th-ranked Long Beach State holds the early lead at 12-under. LBSU's Steen Zeman had the best individual round of the day with a 5-under 67.
Jason Tang leads the 'Eaters in a tie for eighth. Tang had five birdies and came in at even-par 72.
Jack Yu is tied for 14th with a 1-over 73, while Tommy Lin and Rei Harashima are one stroke back in a tie for 22nd. Both Yu and Harashima got to 2-under on the back nine but bogeyed three of their final four holes. Owen Davis Piger (82) is also tied for 48th.
UCI returns to the course on Monday for the second round of the Big West Championship with tee times starting at 10 a.m.
