
Andrej Jokanovic Named AVCA National Player Of The Week

LOUISVILLE, KY – UC Irvine men's volleyball player Andrej Jokanovic has been named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Collegiate Men's Player of the Week.
It is the first national distinction for Jokanovic who was also honored as The Big West Defensive and Freshman Player of the Week. He is the only freshman to claim the award this season and is the third UCI freshman (Kyle Russell, Joel Schniedmiller) to be honored. The outside hitter is the 24th Anteater to earn the recognition all-time.
Jokanovic was dominant once again in a series sweep of No. 18 CSUN, averaging 4.71 kills, 5.71 points, 2.71 digs, 0.71 blocks and 0.57 aces. The outside hitter started the week, putting away a match-high 23 kills, which tied his career-high and set a new career-high in digs with 13, his third career double-double. He also added four total blocks (1 solo) and an ace at the Bren Center then in the second meeting at Northridge, he shared the team lead with 10 kills, six digs and three aces.
Jokanovic ranks second in The Big West and 16th nationally in points (4.32), while also standing sixth in hitting percentage (.317), third in kills (3.62) and fourth in aces (0.43).
No. 5 UC Irvine will take on No. 3 Long Beach State Friday (Apr. 17) in Long Beach before closing out the regular season Saturday (Apr. 18) at the Bren Events Center. First serve is 6:00 p.m.
