IRVINE, Calif. -Â UC Irvine men's golf is back in action, March 22-24, at the UC San Diego Invitational in La Jolla. The tournament will be contested at Torrey Pines Golf Club with 18 holes to be played each day. Sunday and Monday are scheduled for a 1 p.m. shotgun start, while Tuesday's action gets underway at 7 a.m.
The Anteaters are part of an 18-team field that includes No. 40 San Diego, No. 61 LMU, Air Force, Bucknell, California Baptist, Creighton, CSUN, DePaul, Drexel, Eastern Washington, Holy Cross, Oklahoma Christian, Prairie View A&M, Southern Utah, UC Santa Barbara, Weber State, and tournament host UC San Diego. LAST TIME OUT
UC Irvine finished 14th at the Lamkin Invitational, March 9-10, at San Diego Country Club.
Jack Yu led the Anteaters with their first top-20 individual showing of the season. Yu tied for 18th with a 54-hole score of 1-under 215 (71-68-76). His second-round 68 was a season best.
Rei Harashima climbed 18 spots in the final round to tie for 66th at 226 (78-76-72).
Jason Tang also tied for 71st (227), while
Owen Davis-Piger was one stroke back in a tie for 77th (228).
SENIOR LEADER
Senior
Rei Harashima ranks first on the squad with a 73.24 average through 21 rounds. He closed out the fall campaign with a season-best 4-under 209 (69-69-71) at the Ka'anapali Classic. Harashima's best 18-hole score of the year came in his first round at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational where he carded a 68. He has three sub-70 rounds this season and 25 in his career. The three-time All-Big West honoree placed among the top-10 at the conference championships in each of the last two years, finishing third in 2024 and eighth in 2025. Harashima has played in every tournament for UCI since his arrival on campus in 2022, compiling seven top-10 showings and a 72.65 career average (114 rounds).Â
YEAR TWO
Sophomore
Jack Yu is coming off his best outing of the year at the Lamkin Invitational (March 9-10) where he carded a 1-under 215. Yu got out to a strong start with back-to-back rounds below par at 71 and a season-best 68. He ranks second on the team with a 73.61 scoring average. Last year, Yu and classmate
Tommy Lin both placed among the top-20 in their Big West Championship debuts and earned all-conference honorable mention recognition. Sophomore
Owen Davis-Piger has also become a regular in the lineup in his second year, playing in all seven of UCI's tournaments. Davis-Piger fired a collegiate career-best 215 (68-70-77) at the Ka'anapali Classic, Oct. 27-29.
STEADY PRESENCE
Junior
Jason Tang has played in every tournament in his Anteater career. Through 78 rounds, Tang owns a 73.94 career average. He has five top-20 showings with a career-best sixth-place finish coming in his collegiate debut where he carded a 10-under 203 at the Nick Watney Invitational in September 2023.
FALL RECAP
UC Irvine competed in four tournaments during the fall season. The Anteaters had a high finish of ninth at the Oregon State Invitational.
Rei Harashima was UCI's top individual finisher in each of the last three events, while
Jack Yu led the 'Eaters at the season-opening Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational with a 6-under 210 (69-69-72). Four of the six Anteaters who competed in a fall tournament recorded at least one sub-70 round.
