RENO, Nev. – The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team continued to re-write the record books Saturday at the Battle Born Classic at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
Â
The Anteaters, who entered the weekend with three school records in as many meets this season, added two more today. Graduate transfer
Aoife Hernon was part of both as she started the action on the track in the 400m where she clocked in at 54.12 (54.23aa) to top a six-year-old program-best of 54.81 that was set by Zani Meaders.
Â
Hernon also joined forces with
Jazzmine Davis,
Halle Sutherland, and
Joy Anderson to set a new standard in the 4x400 for the second time this season. The quartet combined for a time of 3:42.46 (3:42.90aa). Davis and Hernon were both part of the relay squad that established the previous record of 3:45.77 at the Spokane Indoor Challenge on Jan. 17.
Â
Emma Hadley, who broke a school record in the mile two weeks ago, ran UCI's second-fastest 800m. Hadley crossed the finish line in 2:11.44 (2:10.80aa) to claim runner-up honors.
Kaia Schmidt wasn't far behind in fourth at 2:12.23 (2:11.59aa). She climbed four spots to No. 3 in program history.
Â
Samantha Bartz led the way in the 200m with a personal-best 24.17 (24.24aa), which moved her up to No. 2 among UC Irvine's all-time leaders. Bartz sits .05 seconds behind teammate
Halle Sutherland, who broke the school record last weekend.
In her first career indoor 3000m race,
Anna Soares took second in 10:06.80 (9:53.47). That time puts her fifth in the school record books.
Â
In the shot put,
Nyla Baker came in fourth, matching her lifetime-best of 14.62 meters (47-11.75), which ranks fourth in program history.
Leilah Lauifi added a PR 13.07m (42-10.75) to crack UCI's all-time top-10.
Â
Zharia Taylor led the 'Eaters in the high jump with a fifth-place showing (1.74m/5-8.5).
Joy Anderson also cleared a season-best 1.74m to jump to No. 4 in indoor school history.
Esmeray Demirbas and
Kailah McKenzie notched season-bests of 1.69m (5-6.5).
