UC Irvine Players Claim Big West Weekly Awards

IRVINE, Calif. – Men's volleyball players William D'Arcy, Trevor Clark and Andrej Jokanovic each picked up a Big West weekly honor after No. 5 UC Irvine won a pair of matches at No. 8 BYU last week.

For the second consecutive week, D'Arcy earned Offensive Player of the Week and Jokanovic was named Freshman of the Week. Clark garners his first career recognition, named Defensive Player of the Week.

D'Arcy was once again dominant offensively, posting a career-high 22 kills in the second win over Cougars. His 22 kills are second most by a Big West player this season. He hit .462 (22-4-39) for the match with three digs and three block assists. In the first meeting, he totaled 16 kills, two digs and three blocks. For the week, D'Arcy averaged 3.80 kills, 4.10 points, 0.70 digs and 0.60 blocks.

Clark dominated on both sides of the ball, averaging 1.20 blocks and 2.40 kills, hitting .639 (21-1-36) with just one attack error over 36 swings last week.  The first night, the middle blocker had a team-high five total blocks  and a career-high 13 kills, hitting .650 on 20 swings without an error. With UC Irvine trailing 8-12 in the fifth set, Clark had two kills and three blocks, in the final 7-1 run, including the last point, a solo block. In the second meeting, he had a career-high seven block assists and put down 11 kills. 

Jokanovic led UCI in the first win at BYU with a career-high 19 kills and just two errors (.436). He added five assists, a dig, an ace and a block assist in the reverse sweep. In the second match, he posted his first career double-double with 14 kills and a career-high 10 digs with two block assists and an ace. For the week, the freshman averaged 3.30 kills, 3.65 points and 1.10 digs.

UC Irvine will host No. 14 Stanford for two matches, Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31). Both matches begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.
