Box Score IRVINE, Calif – UC Irvine had a season-high 18 blocks, but it wasn't enough as UC San Diego beat the Anteaters 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23) at the Bren Events Center Saturday.
The Anteaters (5-9, 0-2) rejected 18 attempts which are tied for the most blocks in the Big West this season. Freshman
Abby Pekrul and graduate student
Sydnee Rowe led UCI with a career-high seven total blocks each. Pekrul's were all block assists, while Rowe had a solo and six assists.
Outside hitter
Kendra Duffey recorded her first career double-double with a team-high 14 kills and a career-high 13 digs. She added five total blocks (1 solo) and two aces.

FIRST SET

SECOND SET
>Duffey would tip the ball down the line for a kill then found the middle of the court on the next point to push UCI out to a 4-2 lead
>A flying dig by Bates led to Pekrul smashing the ball over on two for the kill, 9-5
>A 4-1 spurt by the Anteaters that was started by another Pekrul kill and capped by a kill by Bates made it 13-8
>Consecutive blocks by Hansen and Pekul gave the Anteaters a 19-14 lead only to watch the Tritons score the next four on two kills, a block and an ace to close within 18-19
>A Triton kill, two blocks and ace gave the Tritons its first lead, 22-21
>Tied at 22, UC San Diego would win the set with the final three points, a UCI service error and a pair of kills, 25-22
THIRD SET
> A kill and block assist by Duffey put UCI on the board first, 2-0
>Five UCI errors helped the Tritons move in front 9-8
>Another five in a row by UCSD, three UCI attack errors gave the Tritons a 14-9 lead
>A kill by Rowe and two Triton attack errors, the last on a block by Duffey and Rowe made it interesting, 15-18, but UCSD answered with the next four, all kills to extend the lead back to 22-15
>UC San Diego would go on to win the set 25-18

FOURTH SET
>A kill by Rowe and a solo block by Duffey gave UCI the 6-3 lead
>UCI would lead 10-7 before UCSD would fight its way back with five straight points to move in front 12-10
>With the score tied at 12-12, UCSD scored five more in a row to force a UCI timeout, 17-12
>A kill and ace by Duffey kept it close 17-20
>Two more blocks, including a solo by Hansen edged UCI to 21-22
>The teams would sideout to end the set, 25-23 and match for the Tritons, 3-1
