NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer drops its first Big West points Thursday night falling at Matador Soccer Field, 1-0, to CSUN.
Making Moves
- The first 45 minutes were spirited between the clubs each with promising attacks with the defenses standing their ground.
- Ariane Haysman Boaler tested CSUN early with a shot on goal in the 12th minute that was saved
- The Anteater attack heightened putting up four more shots in a five-minute span including Clara Samson with the best chance of the bunch sliding just long of the far post in the 16th minute
- Ella Colombini capped off the barrage with a firm attempt that went into the side netting in the 19th minute
- Suus de Bakker rose up for a header off a corner kick in the 30th minute putting it off the crossbar
- CSUN's best chances in the half came in the 43rd minute with a rocket from the edge of the box turned aside by Laurynn Ziller. A rebound was sent over the goal finishing the half scoreless
Stopped Short
- Each side began the half with their chances and a shot for each in the first 10 minutes
- Suus de Bakker was back on the other end of a cross heading in on goal this time, but it was saved in the 59th minute
- The Matadors responded with a header of their own in the 61st minute
- A corner kick similar to UC Irvine's earlier attempts found Cassidy Imperial-Pham right in the mixer, and her attempt found the back of the net after bounding off the far post for a 1-0 CSUN lead
- UC Irvine's drive intensified with sights set on a goal putting up the match's next four shots
- Clara Samson put up chances in the 67th and 69th minutes with one floating into the keeper's hands and a second fired high of the right post
- de Bakker was again denied in th 75th minute as a clearance found her top center of the box returning a shot with a half volley that was snagged by the keeper
- CSUN did well to slow UC Irvine's attack down the final 15 minutes allowing just one wayward shot while salting away the minutes to score the win
CSUN 1, UC Irvine 0
- The loss puts UCI even at 1-1 in Big West play and stops an overall win streak of two giving them a 4-3-4 record on the season
- The Anteaters finished on top in terms of possession at 53% as well as shots, 16-8, and shots on goal, 4-2
- Laurynn Ziller finished with one save
- Notable milestones hit on the night came from Suus de Bakker and Mihaela Perez, each playing in their 70th matches as an Anteater becoming the 49th and 50th Anteaters to reach the mark. de Bakker also surpassed 4,000 career minutes as well.
