IRVINE, Calif. - A pair of wins and several all-time top-10 performances highlighted the Steve Scott Invitational Saturday at Anteater Stadium.
Halle Sutherland had an impressive day on the track, finishing second in the 200m and third in the 100m (11.70). Her 200m time of 23.69 is a personal record and ranks second in program history.
Samantha Bartz also ran lifetime-bests of 11.76 in the 100m and 24.18 in the 200m. Bartz moved into a tie for fifth on UCI's all-time charts in the 100m, while she is now 10th in the 200m.
Esmeray Demirbas earned her third 400m hurdle victory of the season, leading the field at 58.79.
Makena Castillo added a win in the 800m Open, crossing the finish line in a meet-best 2:14.06.Â
In the 100m hurdles,
Reyna Johnson placed fourth with a time of 13.87, while Jazmine Davis was sixth at 13.95.
Kailah McKenzie claimed runner-up honors in the high jump with a clearance of 1.73m (5-8).
Nyla Baker also took second in the discus with a toss of 47.33m (155-3) and was fourth in the shot put at 14.63m (48-0).
The 4x400 relay team of
Esmeray Demirbas,
Lauren Aquino,
Luz Mercado and
Malia Gay placed second with a time of 3:44.19.
Lauren Thai,
Halle Sutherland,
Reyna Johnson and
Samantha Bartz took third in the 4x100 (45.67).
The Anteaters recognized their graduating seniors in their final home meet.
UC Irvine will be back in action next weekend when it heads to Long Beach for the Big West Heptathlon, May 9-10.
