Anteater Trio Shines On All-Big West Second Team

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine women's tennis earned a pair of All-Big West Second Team selections the conference announced Thursday afternoon.
 
Kayla Meraz garnered her first career postseason award and the program's first Second Team singles selection since 2016.
 
Meraz competed at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions in 2025 and finished dual match play with a 9-7 record, 2-5 in conference action. Both her conference wins came at the second position over UC Davis and UC Riverside. Meraz fought hard in her top of the lineup spot with three sets against other all-conference honorees were sent to a tie breaker.

The duo of Carolyna Fowler and Yen Nhi Huynh tallied the program's second straight double honor and the first pairing to make the second team since 2016. Fowler and Y. Huynh competed primarily at No. 2 where they compiled a 13-4 dual match record, 5-3 in the Big West. Both players finished the season with a team best 13 doubles victories and went on a five-match win streak twice.
 
It is Fowler's second straight postseason doubles honor after being named an honorable mention a season ago with her sister Emily Fowler while the freshman Y. Huynh adds her first career postseason accolade to an accomplished rookie campaign.
 
UC Irvine completed the 2024-25 season with a 10-13 record which was capped by an appearance in the Big West Championship First Round.
