Three UC Irvine Players Earn Big West Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – Hilir Henno, Joe Karlous and Micah Goss each earned a Big West Weekly honor for their performances in a pair of wins over No. 9 CSUN last week.

Henno was named Offensive Player of the Week after a dominant performance against the Matadors averaging 5.75 kills, 6.75 points, 0.75 aces and 1.00 digs. At home on Senior Night, he recorded 20 kills, while hitting .529 (20-2-34). He had 5 aces, two digs and two block assists in the sweep. In Northridge, the outside hitter had a season-high 26 kills and hit .417 (26-6-48). He led the team with six digs and added an ace and a solo block. With six aces last week, Henno is now nine shy of tying the NCAA all-time record of 255 held by UC Santa Barbara's Evan Patek (2004-07). This is Henno's fifth Offensive award of the season and his 12th overall. He has claimed 17 Big West weekly honors all-time.

Karlous was named Setter of the Week after guiding UCI a pair of hitting percentages over .400 in the two wins. In the Anteaters' sweep at home, UCI hit .444, while the squad hit .402 in Northridge. In the first meeting, he dished 31 set assists and had six digs and two block assists. In the second, he totaled 46 set assists and three digs. For the week, the graduate student average 9.63 set assists and 1.13 digs per set. This is Karlous' third Setter of the Week recognition.

Freshman Micah Goss averaged 1.25 blocks and 1.25 kills against CSUN. In the first meeting, he had a team-high four block assists to go with 4 kills, while hitting .429. In the season finale, he had a match-high six total blocks (1 solo) plus six kills, hitting .556 with two digs. He was also effective from the service line with two aces in Irvine and one in Northridge. This is his second Defensive honor of the season and UCI's second consecutive with Shane Aitken winning last week.

The Anteaters are the No. 3 seed for The Hawaiian Islands presents the 2025 Outrigger Big West Men's Volleyball Championship this week. UCI, who is ranked No. 4 nationally, will take on six-seed CSUN for the third time in eight days on Thursday (Apr. 24) at 10:00 p.m. PT
