Brooks Throws Complete Game Shutout to Sweep Hawai'i, 5-0

IRVINE, Calif. --- Ryder Brooks finished a weekend sweep of Hawai'i with a complete game shutout of his own with a two-hitter 5-0 win at Anteater Ballpark Saturday.
  • Brooks replicated Trevor Hansen's performance striking out a career high 10
    • He allowed just two hits while walking one as part of six total base runners allowed
    • Brooks faced the minimum through three innings and had a no-hitter going through 4.2 innings
    • He got well-timed double plays including one to end the fourth and strand a runner on third base
    • Brooks and Hansen become the third duo in Anteater history to throw complete game shutouts in consecutive games
      • Andrew Morales and Elliot Surrey did in a series against Grand Canyon in 2024
      • Bob Frishette and Bob Dobey did so in 1977 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Cal Poly Pomona, respectively
    • The shutouts and the first in back-to-back games for the team since 2019 when UCI finishes off a weekend vs. St. John's winning 3-0, and began the next weekend shutting out Utah Valley, 15-0
    • The two hits allowed are the least given up by the 'Eaters since 2022 when Michael Frias, Tanner Brooks, Jacob King, and Cooper Robinson combined to two-hit UC Davis in the first game of a doubleheader
  • The offense backed him up thanks to a pair of big flies with Chase Call blasting a two-out, three-run home run in the third inning, and Blake Penso started the fourth inning with a home run to center for a 4-0 lead
  • Frankie Carney had a two-out double to bring home a run in in the sixth to make it a 5-0 game
  • UCI improves to 28-9 on the season, and takes sole possession of first place in the Big West with a 16-2 record
UCI finishes up their homestand with a Tuesday night matchup against No. 10 UCLA with first pitch at 6:00 p.m.
