LAS VEGAS, Nevada – UC Irvine moved up two spots and sits in third place at the Big West Championships held at the Spanish Trail Country Club.
The Anteaters improved 17 shots, shooting a 286 on the second round, which is tied for the team's sixth best score of the year. UC Irvine is in third place with a two-day score of 589 (303-286), trailing Cal State Fullerton (574) and Long Beach State (584) heading into the final round tomorrow.
Freshman
Katherine Gerbing led the Anteaters, firing six birdies and recording a career-low score of 67 Monday to move into a tie for fourth place. Her round of 67 is the second lowest of tournament, only behind tournament leader Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith of Cal State Fullerton who fired a 65 and is three shots in front of Gerbing who has a two-round total of 143 (76-67). Â She is second among the tournament field in Par 5 scoring (4.63).
Freshman
HaYoung Lee shot even par 72 and is ninth with a 36-hole total of 146 (74-72), one shot ahead of freshman
Katelyn Kong who also carded a 72 on the second round and is 10
th with a score of 147 (75-72). Sophomore
Alyson Sor is 35
th with a score of 155 (78-77), while freshman
Alona Avery is tied for 36
th with a total of 156 (81-75).
The Anteaters are in the last grouping Tuesday, beginning to tee-off at 8:50 a.m.
